Course Objectives

The goal of this course is to introduce students to the basic probability theory and mathematical statistics and help them in establishing a good theoretical background for their future professions.


Course Content

Probability, combinatorics, random variables, expectations, joint distribution functions, conditional distributions, distribution functions, moment generating functions, limit theorems.


Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students are expected to:

. learn or review basic probability concepts, including marginal and conditional probabilities, Bayes Theorem 

. familiarize themselves with the concepts of random variable, expectation, variance, moments etc.

. understand discrete and continuous statistical distributions and their properties

. learn how to find the distribution of a transformed variable
